The Funeral and the Murder Mystery

Great Uncle Stevie

My mother was born in the late ’60s. She was about 5 years old when she was told by her parents that they were all traveling to go see “The Greats”.  The Greats were her great aunts and uncles who lived a few hours away.

Upon her arrival, my mother was told that unlike usual she was not allowed to play in the front room of the house. Instead, all of her toys had been placed in the back of the house where the kitchen was. It is important to note the layout of the house was a long rectangle that was built with the front room of the home greeting the front door, the living room situated behind it and the kitchen farther behind the living room each separated by an archway. Almost like a tunnel. With her toys in the kitchen, my mother was kept very far away from the front room. Two archways and the living room separating her.

As she was playing with her paper dolls and coloring books she noticed a man sitting on an old wooden stool set low to the ground in the archway of the living room. He was wearing an old brown suit popular in the 1940’s with a hat tilted low over his brows, covering his bald head. As he was spitting into a brass spittoon, he introduced himself to my mother as Stevie. It can be intimidating to meet new adults as a child even if they are your relatives so my mother was a tad frightened as this man talked to her from his seat in the archway as she played with her toys. It wasn’t until she tried to walk into the living room that Stevie began reaching out for my mother exclaiming, “Come here! Im going to tickle you!”

She ran all the way around the seated man and straight to her great aunts complaining about the man who said he was going to tickle her. My mother’s great aunts were not the type of women to dilly dally or let others scare them or their family so they immediately set out to find the family culprit trying to tickle my mother was she played.

It wasn’t until they asked my mother to describe what the family member looked like who was pestering her that they gathered the rest of the family into the living room to ask, “Who took their eyes off the baby?” My mother knew that she was “the baby” but as her great aunts continued to ask the rest of the family gathered around, they all exchanged looks of confusion.

After each relative said that they did not see my 5 year old mother in the front room, only her playing with her toys and talking by herself her aunts said, “She said Stevie was talking to her and saying her was going to tickle her. So who let he baby in the front room to help her imagination think Stevie is playing with her?” As my mother watched her family gathered around her argue about who had let her  into the front room to see her Uncle Stevie laid out in his casket, she peered back over to see the man sitting on his stool in the archway mouth full of  chewing tobacco and spittoon at his feet. Her great uncle Stevie was attending his own funeral.

Our Metaphysical Domino Effect

Growing up as a child medium is tough in its own ways, especially when your family can’t fathom that you simply can see and speak to ghosts. But as my mother grew older and decided to embrace her mediumship instead of ignore it, she has been able to help many people both living and dead. Our gifts are interesting in the sense that they are always changing, never static. Once we think that we’ve got a good handle on interpreting the images, feeling, and emotions spirits provide us as mental mediums, Spirit seems to change it up. And the people we meet both physically and in spirit are always different too.

It may be different for other mediums but for my mother and I, it seems that a sort of metaphysical domino needs to fall in order to trigger our gifts. Yes we can sit down to a reading with a client or be walking around and feel the metaphysical energy around us, but sometimes we cannot stop it. For example many people ask, “How do you control channeling and not channeling the dead? And our answer is usually explaining how we put up a sort of spiritual wall around us or simply try to ignore the psychic tingle of feeling a spirit around us. But sometimes we are in a certain situation or conversation that tips that metaphysical domino and we have almost no control over the sudden rush of information we receive from a spirit. The next story from my mother is a great example of just this.

 A Murder Victim’s Last Testament

She was sitting down to have lunch with a friend who happened to be a detective in law enforcement. This individual began sharing a little bit about their work and mentioned how they were so frustrated with a new case they were working on….BAM! That’s all it took.

With those words the metaphysical domino had been tipped and suddenly the murder victim rushed to my mother and began telling her every detail about their tragic death. As her friend began to share more about the frustration of the case my mother began telling them everything the detective knew and much much more. The amount of information the sprit of the murder victim was giving my mother was too much at once so her friend rushed to the restaurant’s register to grab a long strip of receipt paper to write on.

As she let the spirit’s information flow through her she spoke what they had to share about their murder and her detective friend wrote down what she had to say, but my mother grabbed a pen too and began to write as she spoke. What she began to scribble down was different information than what she was telling her friend. She describes it as one of the few instances a spirit has channeled her unconscious ability to become a trance medium. She explained it as the spirit taking temporary control of some of her physical actions.

In this instance, the murder victim was telling her information to speak while they made her write down more information independently. Suddenly the murder victim showed my mother the image of their mother. Heartbroken and in utter despair about the murder of their middle aged child. This spirit made my mother feel the emotions of their saddened mother and then she knew… This is why the spirit had chosen her.

Yes, they want their case to be solved, but not for themselves. To help bring some peace and clarity to their grieving mother. Due to certain privacy rules and other regulations my mother could not contact the victim’s mother but she did provided all the evidence she could to the law enforcement individuals related to the case. A few years passed after she had given police the victim’s entire story, providing proven evidence and a lot of overlooked truths and as far as she knew the case still had not been solved. But after sharing their story and evidence behind their murder and recognizing my mother had done all she could to help, the soul of the murder victim did not contact her again. They had spoken their peace and done all they could do.
